3 Steps: Start Your Day the Mindful Way

Below you will read three steps to start your day mindfully:

Step 1: Express Gratitude

Before tomorrow morning, create a Gratitude List of the things you feel grateful for everyday.  Review your list of gratitudes at the start of each day.  As you read through your list, visualize those moments you feel grateful for.  Carry those positive feelings with you into the rest of your day.

 

  • “I am grateful for …”
  • “I am grateful to be …”
  • “I am thankful for …”
  • “I give thanks for …”
  • “ I cherish …”

 

Step 2: Drink Water

Get an early edge to your morning by replenishing your body with two glasses of room temperature water, about 16 ounces.  Prime your day to absorb nutrients and boost metabolism.

Step 3: Bring Presence

Begin to build rituals around your morning routine tasks with great awareness.  Concentrate on applying all of your sensations onto the activity in front of you.

 

  • “Today, I will eat breakfast seated at the table.”
  • “Today, I will practice five minutes of sun salutation exercises with the rise of the morning sun.”
  • “Today, I will begin my day with five long, deep breaths.”

 

 

There are a number of possible ways to start your day mindfully.  Commit to beginning your day expressing gratitude, hydrating, and being present.  Ask yourself, “how do you want to start your day?”.
