LA Weight Loss Plan: 5 things you should know

by | Mar 25, 2019 | Last updated Mar 16, 2023

which GLP-1 is right for me

Founded in 1989, LA Weight Loss experienced quick growth and success as a weight loss program. After facing controversy around quality of service from franchisees, LA Weight Loss closed most weight loss centers and now focuses heavily on their online presence. From their website, LA Weight Loss programs are “designed to work with your body’s natural weight loss processes to optimize safe and fast weight loss that you can count on keeping off for good.” Sounds like a balanced sustainable plan doesn’t it? We found 5 things we want you to know about it!

1. Real food nutrition, kinda…

It quickly becomes obvious that the focus of this program is to market and sell supplements and products to LA Weight Loss followers. Within their proven approach to weight loss, the focus is broken down into three areas including the LA Menu plan, LA Lite Bars, and LA nutritionals. Again, is a diet sustainable if it requires you to buy THEIR supplements? Noom is all about finding the foods that work for you! We will never try to sell or push a specific brand or supplement. If it doesn’t naturally fall into your lifestyle, is it going to be sustainable?

2. The LA Weight Loss Plan is Pricey

LA weight loss markets multiple program options for those individuals who wish to purchase products. A 30 day supply of the necessary bars and nutritionals will cost you about $200. So that is an extra $200 on top of the real food that you will be purchasing to stick to the meal plan. At Noom, we believe healthy habits should be accessible to everyone and not be a financial stress! Join Noom for about the same price as a new pair of shoes (why not do both #treatyoself)!

3. Is this just a phase?

LA Weight Loss has three phases within its program. Weight loss, weight loss stabilization, and maintenance. Each of these phases has a specific focus and will result in an adjustment of calories and allow dieters to add specific foods back in. To meet the weight loss phase, LA Weight Loss believes in limiting or eliminating certain foods. At Noom we believe elimination teaches an unhealthy relationship with food. Finding balance and how a food can allow you to work towards your goal is key to long term success!

4. LA Weight Loss Plan… Candy Bars?

A key part of the LA Weight Loss program is the LA lite bars. Looking at the ingredients and nutrition info we were shocked to see a total of 15-20g of sugar per bar. That is the same amount of sugar as a Snickers bar…Don’t get us wrong we love a good sweet here and there but should a daily staple of a “diet” include a rebranded candy bar?

5. Product vs. sustainability

Browsing LA Weight Loss’ website, it becomes clear that the focus of this business is to sell weight loss products. From supplements to branded shaker bottles, there is far more focus on pushing products to consumers than helping them find an approach that is sustainable and long-term focused. Noom will never push products or tell you what to buy. This is YOUR journey and you should be the one that decides what works for you!
