After two heart attacks, here’s how Buck lost 30 pounds

After experiencing two cardiac events within a year, Buck knew that it was time to make a change. He decided to embark on a journey to better health and kickstarted his weight loss by tracking his food and activity.

It was working, but most people don’t realize that having a low body mass and proper weight doesn’t make you healthy.

When he hit a plateau at 220lbs, he decided he needed help. At the same time, Buck took a pre-diabetes screener through his insurance provider. Due to a family history of diabetes, he was eligible to join Noom’s Diabetes Prevention Program. He needed accountability, he needed more education, and he wanted to make sure that he was truly getting healthy, not just losing weight .Noom gave him just what he was looking for.

This was far from just a weight loss program. The 220 [lb.] weight went in the rearview window, but it wasn’t the weight I was happy about, it was the focus on sleep, happiness, and overall comprehensive improvement in well-being.

The program also provided him with guidance and accountability he needed, particularly from his Coach, Julie.

I have no problem staying self-motivated.  I can drag myself out of bed at 4 am and get moving, but my work schedule had me skipping meals, eating junk at my desk, etc., and I needed help planning easy meals, nutritious snacks — the whole gamut — and Coach Julie was a Godsend. She was instrumental in challenging me and pushing the right buttons.

The daily articles and challenges that Buck received were so important in helping him grasp the ins and outs of healthy living, and change his mindset to conquer his biggest obstacles.

To succeed in this, [you need]  to understand this is a complete lifestyle overhaul.  It isn’t always easy, it isn’t always fun, but it’s right there in front of you and you have to face the elephant in the room.

When talking about his support group, Buck was emotional.

I think of these people as family.  We’re on a journey together, fighting our own demons along the way, but we know we can post at 2:00 am and somebody will respond within an hour. It’s an amazing group.

Since kickstarting his journey with Noom a few months ago, Buck has lost 29 lbs and he feels great. His energy levels have skyrocketed and his attitude is more optimistic than ever.

Noom has allowed him to get rid emotional baggage he has been hanging on to from his younger years and allowed him to embrace a life of adventure.

I’m hiking a virtual Pacific Crest Trail right now.  I’m at 517.0 miles since February 12th.  It’s 2,650 miles long.  So five or six days or nights a week I throw on a backpack weighing anywhere from 25-42 lbs and go log some miles on the park trails here in Ft Wayne, Indiana.  Everybody thinks I’m crazy, but ask Julie, she knows I’m sane.

In his own words, “Noom was a catalyst” for positive change in his life.

His advice for anyone thinking of taking the plunge?

If you’re going to go in looking for miracles and excuses, it won’t work.  If you go into it open-minded, willing to learn, try new things, accept suggestions, and advice, well, you will succeed!

Congratulations on your incredible transformation, Buck! You are an inspiration to us all.
