21 Day Fix is yet another quick-fix diet program put forth by Beachbody, a diet and fitness brand that offers a variety of weight loss products and workout videos. The program consists of seven, differently sized, color coded containers that facilitate portion controlled eating.

The green container is the largest and meant strictly for vegetables, the purple and next largest is for fruits, red for proteins, yellow for carbs, blue for healthy fats, and the two orange containers (the smallest) for seeds and dressings. You also get a shakeology shaker cup for drinks.

21 Day Fix Calorie Levels

There are four different calorie levels these containers can be used for, depending on your weight loss goals: 1200-1499 calories, 1500-1799 calories, 1800-2099 calories, and 2100-2300 calories. There are also fitness videos that incorporate 30 minutes of easy-to-do daily exercises.

21 Day Fix: Not as Simple as it Looks

The motto for 21 Day Fix includes “simple fitness,” “simple eating,” and “fast results.” “Simple eating” is where we start scratching our heads; however, after reviewing some of the sample meal plans provided by 21 Day Fix and various clientele online.

Read on for Beachbody’s idea of a simple meal prep plan for one day, for those subscribing to the strictest calorie level.

21 Day Fix Meal Prep for the 1,200–1,499 Calorie Level

A container count of 3 green, 2 purple, 4 red, 2 yellow, 1 blue, 1 orange, and 2 teaspoons is divvied up among this sample daylong meal plan:

  • Breakfast: Baked Oatmeal Cups with Blueberries and 2 hard-boiled eggs (or) ¾ cup plain low-fat Greek yogurt (½ Purple, 1 Red, 1 Yellow).
  • Snack 1: Whole-grain rice cake with 2 tsp. peanut butter (½ Yellow, 2 tsp.)
  • Lunch: Mason jar salad with 2 Tbsp. vinegar-based dressing, 1 cup cherry tomatoes, ½ cup bell peppers, ¼ cup onion, ¾ cup cooked chicken breast (about 4 oz.), ¾ cup baby spinach (2 Green, 1 Red, 1 Orange).
  • Snack 2: 12 almonds and Shakeology shake blended with ½ cup blueberries, water, and ice (½ Purple, 1 Red, 1 blue).
  • Dinner: ¾ cup seasoned ground turkey with 1 cup sautéed zucchini, and 1 cup strawberries (1 Green, 1 Purple, 1 Red, 1 tsp.)
  • Snack 3: 1½ cups air-popped popcorn (½ Yellow).

21 Day Fix Adds More Work Into Dieting and Time You Don’t Have

Seems simple, right? But prepare yourself mentally for what’s actually about to happen. The containers are meant to take the work out of dieting. Don’t go over the rim with a proper food item for that meal and you can simply eat it, no problem, right? Wrong. First of all you don’t simply get to use all of the containers every meal as long as you don’t overfill them. That’s not how it works.

21 Day Fix is a Different Way of Measuring Things but Not Compatible with Grocery Shopping or Family Meal Planning

What essentially ends up happening is these containers function almost the same as measuring cups within 21 Day Fix specific meal planning which only allows certain approved foods. No wonder countless people on this plan have spreadsheets they publish online to share with people how they’ve apparently simplified the process. It’s all fairly complicated.

You Can’t Just Eat Any Foods on 21 Day Fix

Meal planning in the containers can only include 21 Day Fix approved foods. You have to plan out every meal, taking into account the amounts per containers of each ingredient for each meal. This definitely involves more than throwing together a turkey sandwich lunch and a bag of grapes, something that is totally acceptable when following Noom’s weight loss plan.

21 Day Fix vs. Noom

The 21 Day Fix is, at heart, dieting – and like all diets, it eventually ends. Noom, on the other hand, is not a diet. It’s a behavior change program that helps you improve your relationship with exercise, food, and yourself; it’s a lifestyle that keeps you losing weight while not depriving yourself of anything. With 21 Day Fix, each round of 21 days is supposed to get you closer to your goal. But with Noom, every day gets you closer to your goal because you’re on a journey that doesn’t require resets and restrictions.

21 Day Fix Isn’t Practical

Slow, consistent weight loss is healthiest for people and it’s the most successful long term. With 21 Day Fix, you may lose weight quickly, but what about after that? Noom has sensible solutions, developed by psychology and experts in nutrition for long term weight management that works.

If you want to spend a lot of money on measuring cups, we suggest putting it toward beautiful craftsmanship at an artisan chef store instead of wasting your money on plastic containers that don’t warrant the extra responsibility.
