How to eat healthy at: Domino’s

Clare Lanaux

We know fast food isn’t the greatest but whether it’s convenience, price, or you’re just cravin’ some nuggets, sometimes we can’t avoid the golden arches (or insert-your-favorite-restaurant-here). Don’t fret, because we’ve got you covered. Each week we’ll spotlight one fast food joint and tell you what to eat — and what to avoid. This week’s choice? Domino’s.

While pizza may have originated in Italy, the cheesy wonder has become an American (late-night) staple. From Domino’s to $1 corner shops, pizza places are prevalent throughout the U.S. Unfortunately, bread topped with melted cheese and various meats is not the most health-conscious option for someone trying to lose or maintain their weight. But with Noom, there’s no food that’s off limits; only ways to better incorporate your favorite guilty pleasures with more mindful options. Check below for the best options from Domino’s (or a similar pizza chain).

What to eat:
Medium Cheese Pizza
If you’re after pizza, head for a slice or two of a medium variety. One slice of Domino’s medium cheese pizza is a Noom yellow food, meaning it’s fine to eat, just in moderation. A serving is one slice, which clocks in at 210 calories. If you’ve really got a craving, grab two slices, but cut it off after that. To make your meal more filling, add ‘green’ veggies to your pizza or compliment your meal with a garden salad. Eat the salad first to fill you up before getting to the main course.

½ Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich
If you’re in the mood for a sandwich, try Domino’s Philly Cheese Steak. Steak, a Noom yellow food, is mixed with green food veggies, and yellow bread to create a healthy mix of ingredients. Steak and cheese provide filling protein, while bread provides energy-filled carbs. But be careful. This sandwich is a Noom yellow food, so again, eat in moderation. The entire sandwich is a whopping 630 calories, so stick to half for lunch and save the rest for later.

Pasta Primavera
The best pasta dish at Domino’s to keep you from going over your calorie budget is the Pasta Primavera. At 540 calories per tin, this Noom yellow food, contains penne pasta topped with baby spinach, diced tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, and a creamy Alfredo sauce. This dish won’t break your calorie bank, but you should stick to one serving and pass on the bread bowl (which can add an extra 800 calories!).

Most importantly, if you find yourself at a Domino’s, don’t freak out. We all have cravings that sometimes need to be satisfied. If you really want that piece of pizza, go for it. Log it in your food tracker to make sure it fits into your calorie budget. Weigh what sacrifices you may need to make later in the day against having your pizza now. Finally, if you go over budget, or found that you’ve exceed your red food allowance, no worries. Get back on track as soon as you can!
